REST IN PEACE: Little Avethandwa Ngalo Killed by Mother’s Partner

Avethandwa Ngalo, a 5-year-old girl, was murdered in the Maletswai (Aliwal North) area of the Joe Gqabi District, Eastern CapeIt is alleged that her mother’s partner (the suspect) collected her from relatives’ home.

Family members were reportedly hesitant, but Avethandwa insisted her mother had sent him.Her body was found by children in the Pola zone (described as in a tree or wrapped in plastic on a clifftop area). She suffered multiple injuries, including stab wounds and signs of strangulation.

The suspect was arrested and charged with murder. He appeared in the Aliwal North Magistrate’s Court, where the community held protests and a candlelight vigil demanding justice. He was held in custody while bail was being considered.
