Rustenburg were left shaken after reports of a suspected cash-in-transit (CIT) robbery

Residents of Rustenburg were left shaken after reports of a suspected cash-in-transit (CIT) robbery along Kremetart Avenue, near a local cemetery, sparked panic in the area.

According to eyewitness accounts, multiple gunshots rang out during the incident, sending motorists and nearby residents scrambling for safety. Witnesses described a chaotic scene as heavily armed suspects allegedly targeted a cash-in-transit vehicle in what appeared to be a coordinated attack.

Shortly after the gunfire, a vehicle was seen engulfed in flames, with thick smoke billowing into the air and visible from a distance. It is not yet clear whether the burning vehicle was linked directly to the robbery or used as part of the suspects’ escape strategy—tactics commonly associated with CIT heists in South Africa.
